Take Me Home, Country Road

Agri-Tourism in Linn County: 2 Rivers Country Trail

In the bustle and stress of day-to-day life, I find myself longing from time to time for simpler things than I get from my smart phone and iPad. I’m called back to the days when my grandparents threw us kids in the car and we all went for a drive. For fun. That was it: driving in the car. Our entertainment was outside the window. No headphones or Game Boys. No built-in DVRs or cell service. We’d drive, we’d look, we’d talk. Then we’d stop for ice cream and go home.
Pippin and I had such a day recently in Linn County, winding through the countryside outside of Albany/Lebanon on the 2 Rivers Country Trail. The Santaim and Calapooia Rivers wind through this fertile valley, as we passed by fields and farms, and cluster after cluster of wild flowers. Fortunately, we had a map. The Albany Visitors Association turned us on to Oregon Country Trails, a website with maps and legends to farms that are open to the public, as well as wineries, cheese makers, chocolatiers, parks, covered bridges and more.
